Still more sketches

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
I've taken to using the Pentel brush pen like a regular brush (that is, dipping it in ink instead of squeezing it). Here's a few drawings I did with this method.

Yes, a blatant Wolverton rip-off, I know.

I got bored by the time I got to her necklace, so I just kind of rushed through it from that point down.

Same thing happened here. Seems I'm only interested in drawing faces. The Cretins is the name of my fictional band, although now I kind of like Bottom Bitch better.

Well, have a Happy New Year everyone! And raise a glass in remembrance of the great Rowland S. Howard, guitarist for the Birthday Party and numerous other bands, who just passed away at the age of 50. RIP

Still sketching with the Pentel Brush Pen

sketch corndogs 72PS

I can't shake the unsettling feeling that I've stolen this octopus-girl image from somewhere. I suspect that I've seen it before, but that may be because it's just derivative of tentacle porn-ish imagery in general. If it turns out that I have unconsciously ripped someone off, let me know and I'll remove it!

Commemorative Carcinoma

There's a little thrift shop across the street from me where today I picked up, for only $1, this 1961 plate from Monsanto, arguably the planet's most evil corporation and the manufacturers of DDT, Agent Orange, and rBGH, as well as toxic waste dumps around the globe. It celebrates "1,000,000 Man Hours without Disabling Injury" and features a beautifully understated monochromatic depiction of their manufacturing plant in the industrial wastelands of Kearny, NJ.

I'm sure I'm the 6,000,000th person to discover the video for "Ready, Able" by Grizzly Bear, but I'm posting it anyway because the claymation and the music are just so damn good.

That art show I've got some drawings in was written up on the VICE magazine blog Here's a pic of me with comic geniuses Lisa Hanawalt and Victor Cayro. I'm the dork in the middle.

I'm thrilled to announce three new additions to my collection. First, I am the proud owner of this sapphic masterwork by Robin bougieman Bougie.

This is a page from a comic to be released soon (I hope!)
And, on Friday I acquired two drawings by the great Victor BALD EAGLES Cayro

Victor is one of my favorite artists working today. I could live in his drawings.
Also, check out this great collection of Perry Rhodan covers!

Soldiering through an MSG headache

Hey, what'cha doing Friday night? If you're in the NYC area, you should come on out to a ca-razy art show/party being thrown by Victor BALD EAGLES Cayro and Becca BK BROYLERZ Kacanda at their studio/gallery/compound in Brooklyn. I'll be there (even though my REAL name and not my pseudonym has been used on the flier. Why do I even bother having a secret identity if people are going to reveal it?!), along with a whole slew of underground comix geniuses, and best of all, you'll be able to buy our work cheap, cheap, cheep! Now peep the flier and click here for all the info

It's a show of sketches, abortions, and art farts. My stuff is going for 10 bucks a pop. That's filet mignon at ground chuck prices, baby! You could walk home with one of these masterpieces

That's right, I'm calling on your input to help settle a difference of opinion between burglepig, editrix of the zine BUTTRAG MAG, and me regarding two versions of a drawing that may be used as a cover for said zine. I started drawing this just as a goof, but then thought that it could work as a cover. Version 1 is the first sketch (no kidding!?) that I did, and while I like it, I think that all the eyeballs and facial insanity really distract the viewer from the other things going on in the scene. Personally, my eye keeps getting drawn back (no pun intended) to the face of the guy and his many eyes, and I can't really focus on the girl or the other action in the scene. Also, the face in Version 1 has an abstract and two-dimensional quality that clashes with the more realistic and conventional treatment of the neck and body. Which is why I prefer Version 2 (there's some stuff missing from Version 2, but you should be able to get the idea). BUT, burglepig prefers Version 1! Who's right?!

The lettering, etc. is not final, by the way; the style and placement may change. Any comments would be most appreciated. Thanks!
