Failure is the best option

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

This drawing really did not work out the way I intended. But I'm posting it anyway, if only to illustrate the point that if you don't fail every now and then, you're not really trying. (Of course, failing all the time is a different matter, but we won't get into that at the moment.)

I swear, I'll have some better drawings up real soon! Just been getting distracted by YouTube videos again, like this one...

No Adam's apple, but that's gotta be a man, right?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ooo! Aak!

I'm working on stuff, but don't have anything worth posting at the moment. So here's a great little ad from the '70s that was sent to me by The Great David Paleo.

Seeing just how much fun I could've had with a Hugo puppet makes my lingering bitterness over being denied this toy as a child all the worse!
Fortunately, now that I'm all grown up I can assuage my suffering with pictures of naked ladies, like the luscious Nikki Hans
(Thanks to hr_fuknstuf and maugla for heppin' me to her.)

THE SENTINEL

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Had a great time watching/goofing on THE SENTINEL last night with weeblondhooker. I'd seen it ages ago, but had forgotten how godawful it was. Thing is, it must have one of the most star-heavy casts ever, including Christopher Walken, Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith, John Carradine, Eli Wallach, Jose Ferrer, Jeff Goldblum, Martin Balsam, Jerry Orbach, Chris Sarandon, and even Tom Berenger (who only gets one line). Everybody was in this piece of crap!

Haven't really settled into working in the new place and I continue to be distracted by other drama, but here's some sketches from the past week

Lately, I've been seeing this old guy around my neighborhood. He has the most gruesome-looking affliction I've ever seen growing on his nose. It's huge, purplish-black, and just hangs there like a swollen, rotten fruit. Seeing him simultaneously fills me with revulsion and breaks my heart. I've always been drawn to the grotesque in art and other representations, and lord knows I do my fair share of gawking at online photos of people suffering all forms of maladies, but seeing it at your local grocery store as you're picking up a bag of chips is a whole other matter. I can't imagine what life must be like for this poor guy.

This drawing doesn't come close to capturing the horror of it.

'sbeen a really shitty week as I've grown increasingly angry and depressed over a situation in my life. Hopefully it will all be resolved soon. Not trying to be cryptic, I'm just old school in the way I don't feel comfortable revealing much about my personal life online (not that anyone cares to begin with). Anyway, I haven't drawn anything new in weeks, so here's a couple of sketches from a month or so ago.

Yeah, I know the proportion on her hand/arm is all out of whack. Sue me.
