Cat videos? On the internet?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

I've written a bit before about the colony of feral cats that lives in my backyard. Well, now I have a litter box full of video of them...
First up are Camila, the black one with the little white dot on her chest, and Maoco, the big tabby. Maoco is the newest member of the colony and is currently the alpha cat. The others generally give him a wide berth.

Maggie, Camila's daughter, shows up...

Lyssy is a real beauty, but so easily spooked.

Here's Sir Thomas Mallory. This cat is about as hardcore as they come. He's always getting into fights. About a year ago he showed up with a big gory wound in his back. I called Animal Control and tried to catch him because I thought there was no way he'd survive it (the wound was right on his spine, and every time he breathed, pus and blood would bubble out--real Fangoria kind of stuff), but he gradually got better and now there's no trace of it. But I should try to catch him and take him to a vet anyway. Poor guy looks so beat up.

Sir Thomas and Lyssy go to town on some Friskies salmon pate`. Maoco is waiting for me to close the window so he can go and smack Lyssy out of the way and take her food.

And the patriarch of the clan, Gran'pa (aka Peter Criss), who's the father (and lover) of Camila and the grandfather (and father) of Maggie. Maggie had a sister, a beautiful calico named Baby Fatso, but I haven't seen her in over a year. Gran'pa was top cat until Maoco showed up and usurped him. But Maoco's only feared by the other cats, while Gran'pa is really loved.

And speaking of being loved, here's my two favorite people in the world: weeblondhooker and Mr. Tutti!

House of 12 Comic

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Comics demigod Cheese Hasselberger invited me to contribute a comic for the next issue of HOUSE OF 12, which should be out in the next few months. This is to be a "kid-friendly" issue, meaning no suppurating vaginas or grotesquely swollen cocks; in other words, none of my usual stuff.

This is my third comic this year featuring a vampire. It'll be the last.

TYPHON Carousel Video

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Here some video I took at last week's TYPHON Carousel show at MoCCA. I want to apologize to everyone involved for my spectacularly crappy camera work. I should have just focused on the monitor, but I was cutting back and forth and generally shaking like a retard, making for a less than optimal viewing experience. Oh well, I just got this fucking camera.

Here's a little pre-show action, with Maestro R. Sikoryak at the table and TYPHON editor Danny Hellman taking pictures. Discerning fans of cartooning will also recognize Victor BALD EAGLES Cayro, Becca BK BROYLERZ Kacanda , Nicholas Gazin, and Hawk Krall.

Danny Hellman and Guy Gonzales read THE TERROR IN PEEP BOOTH FIVE

Nicholas Gazin reads "Party Monster" Unfortunately, I missed the beginning

Next up is Hans Rickheit

Keep an eye out for Hans' new work, THE SQUIRREL MACHINE, coming this Fall from Fantagraphics. His stuff is fucking amazing.

Then it was my turn to read my Virgil comic.

And Victor Cayro closed the proceedings with his masterwork NOCTURNAL OMISSION. (Unfortunately, I can't post the whole thing on YouTube and I haven't yet figured out how to split videos up into parts, so the ending gets cut off)

Finally, some post-show shenanigans with Victor Cayro, Becca Kacanda, and me.

There's a second, longer video clip with us, but my behavior is really obnoxious in it, so I won't post it. And I really did quit smoking; it's just that if I'm drunk and cigarettes are around, I have to have one.

I regret not being able to film everyone's readings, especially R. Sikoryak's and Hawk Krall's, which were really funny. But, I did get Hawk Krall to give me a drawing!

dreambaby 72

That second baby came out looking like one of those naughty souvenirs you'd buy where you lift the barrel on the native and his schlong pops out. My friend Michele is none other than weeblondhooker, and, for the record, if we found ourselves in a room full of weird neonates in real life, she would not shush me.

Had a great time at the TYPHON slideshow
tonight. Took a bunch of video, which I'll post once I figure out how to download it.

Also, hey.

Grien is Great

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I love the woodcuts and etchings of that old German master, Hans Baldung Grien, particularly his "Witches' Sabbath" (1510)

grien witch

Inspired by it, I drew a version of the middle witch

I have to say, however, that I couldn't really figure out what was going on with her hair in Grien's print. It seems to blend in with the cloth that she's holding stretched above her head, but it's hard to tell.

Speaking of great artists, go peep the latest blog entry of David Paleo. It will blow your dome, homes!

TYPHON Slideshow at MoCCA

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

typhon carousel

I'll be taking part in the upcoming TYPHON slideshow at MoCCA next Thursday, June 18. The Carousel shows are the brainchild of Bob Sikoryak, and feature comics projected and read by their creators. The show starts at 7 PM and is only $5, so come on down if you're in the area. In addition to me, the following fine comic artists will be presenting their work: Gregory Benton, Rupert Bottenberg, Victor BALD EAGLES Cayro, Nicholas Gazin, Hawk Krall, Pshaw, Hans Rickheit, Danny Hellman, and Sikoryak.
I'll probably get really drunk in an effort to overcome my nervousness and just slur my way through my piece, but the rest of the show promises to be great!

In other news, the senior support organization that soul-sister #1 weeblondhooker does volunteer dog walking for has a number of cats up for adoption. Their owner died and they need to find a new home....perhaps your home? If you're interested, leave a comment.

Lil’ freaky faces

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Been working on stuff, but not as much as I should be, so I don't have much to post lately. Here's a sketchbook page

sketch little freaks 72

I started with a pen on the left side of the white-haired guy in the top middle but switched over to the Pentel brush for the right side of his face and stuck with it for the rest. I'm getting better control with the ink flow since I first posted about it.
Lots of cassette tapes left to choose from. C'mon! It's free music!
