Shop Talk

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I'm greatly indebted to bougieman for bringing to my attention Wally Wood's 22 Panels that Always Work It's been a veritable boon (a boon, I say!) to my comic making lately, and I urge any cartoonists out there who don't know about it to print out a copy and keep it handy.
I did a quick little exercise in which I tried out (read: copied) each of Wally Wood's panel models...well, I got as far as the 9th one before I got distracted and moved on to something else. This is just a throwaway comic but I decided to ink it anyway.

A clarification

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

That photo of myself I posted yesterday was taken right after lifting up the mask, so I didn't have my glasses on (without them, I'm blind as a bat). Consequently, that's not really what I look like. This self-portrait from a few years back is much more accurate, at least when it comes to depicting how I feel.

Of course now my face will probably break out in a terrible rash. These things smell awfully toxic.

This one I modified with red ink to create a custom costume: "Skull-faced human after performing cunnilingus on menstruating zombie girl." Although now I realize it looks like a Joker rip-off. Oh, well.

Memes-a-poppin’

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

A bunch of memes going around. Seeing as I have nothing better to do...
#1: That comics-geek one wherein you list your influences. I've arranged mine chronologically. These are, of course, incomplete, but this is the best I can come up with now....

Left for Dead

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The B&W sketch for a possible cover drawing that I submitted to SCREW magazine in February 2003. The Art Director said he liked it but that they'd have to wait before running it as they'd just published a cover featuring snowmen. Unfortunately, it never got cold or snowed again that year (fucking global warming). It wouldn't have mattered anyway as SCREW folded later that Spring and I took my hiatus from drawing to wander in the desert of graduate school soon after. But, here it is now, in all its corny glory:

The 20th century is amazing!

My boss gave me his old 80 GB iPod earlier this week (yes, he's a very cool guy)and I just got around this afternoon to setting it up. Damn, it's nice! I've been buying songs and dumping my old cds into it and just really enjoying myself with it. The only disappointment so far is that iTunes doesn't have any Lubricated Goat. I have a cassette copy of "Plays the Devil's Music" that is about one play away from complete disintegration, so I was really hoping to replace that. But other than that, it's great!

Prior Offenses

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

A 4-page comic featuring my character Virgil (who is basically just a chubby version of me) that first appeared in Danny Hellman's LEGAL ACTION COMICS #1 back in 2000. The 1st page has a lot of words, I know, but it gets easier as you go along.

Rockin' out to the Wu cd that weeblondhooker gave me today. Thanks, babe!
Here's a drawing from last year (I had to scan this twice and try to splice it together. You can see where I didn't quite match it up on the high heels on the left. Oh, well)
