End-of-the-month sketch dump

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I think I'm the only person left in town this holiday weekend. Which is fine by me. Just listening to Wu Tang and posting sketches...

From the Reject Pile

In 2003, Dom Salemi, editor of BRUTARIAN magazine, asked me to do a cover for an upcoming issue that would feature an interview with famed cult director Ted V. Mikels. I got the pencils for it done, but at the time I was so busy with other shit in my life that I ultimately had to back out. For what it's worth, here's the sketch. Try to picture it inked and in color.

How many atrocious Ted V. Mikels films can you find referenced?!

A new HUGO’S HANG-UPS

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Just finished this last night.

There's a little jiggering with Photoshop that remains to be done with this, but, despite the simplicity of the task, it is beyond my current abilities. What happened was that I replaced the 2nd panel, but I wasn't able to place it on the page without covering up part of the third panel. So, the third panel here appears a little smaller than it actually is, and then I had to draw the left-hand border of the third panel with the fucking mouse, which is impossible. I need to cut around the little thought balloon in the 2nd panel and then drop it in. I'll figure it out eventually, but for now this will do. I really have no patience with computers and try to avoid using them in my work as much as possible, but here it was inevitable because I really didn't like the way the 2nd panel originally looked. One day, however, I hope to be able to post something without going into a long-winded, boring director's commentary of why things didn't work out.

Haven’t posted in some time…

I've been busy! I did recently complete a 4-page comic for blackguard23's forthcoming new comix zine BLACKGUARD, however. And here's a panel from it to whet your appetite...

The theme of the premiere issue is religious crazies. Stay tuned for more info as the release date nears.

My bestest bud weeblondhooker keeps racking up the good karma and is entering the final lap on her way to sainthood with her latest rescue: a teeny little newborn squirrel that she named Gollum (for obvious reasons). She found him on the ground, along with two of his brothers who didn't survive the fall. After nursing him back to health with eye-dropper feedings of puppy formula and Pedialyte every two hours (a saint, I say!), she found a vet who specializes in rescued wildlife to take him in and give him a home until he's old enough to get his own place.
And here's the little guy. I happen to think he's cute, but then, being a hairless, nearly blind, frightened little rodent myself, I'm not exactly impartial.

Three cheers for weeblondhooker!!!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Hey gang! Come on down to Jim Hanley's Universe this Wednesday, August 6, from 6 to 8 PM, for the TYPHON book signing. I'll be there, and so will these fine comic artists:

TYPHON is 192 pages of full-color comix fantabulousness, so get your ass down to Jim Hanley's (4 West 33rd St, New York--right across from the big pointy building) and pick yourself up a copy. Say you read about it here and I'll sign your tits for free!
